what i would put in my millennium time capsule, by hez:

lots of pictures! pictures of my family, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins; school pictures, and pictures of my friends and co-workers past and present. pictures of the seasons, pictures of snow, of going to cut down the christmas tree when i was still a toddler, swimming in the hot springs somewhere in canada and standing by the sign for a town called “kimberly” because one of the girls who lived across the street from us, who’s mom babysat me sometimes, was named kimmy. pictures of the ocean, vacations to disneyland, and disney world, meeting rock hudson and susan st. james, standing in an orange grove in florida and swimming in the gulf of mexico during christmas vacation, christmas mornings when my hair was still ratty and standing on end, and i’m still im my pj’s sitting on the floor surrounded by toys, boxes and torn wrapping paper. pictures of the houses i’ve lived in, the cars i’ve ridden in or driven, my bikes, trykes, and little red wagons. the slide in the back yard i fell off of (or jumped, i don’t remember now) and bit my tongue hard, and my dad taking an ice cube out of his drink (probably a scotch for all i know!) and putting it on my tongue. the trips to england, scotland and wales. the beautiful countryside, and the gorgeous old castles, the bobby on the street in london, the people we were on the tour with, the hotels we stayed at, and the tower bridge, big ben, buckinham palace, harrods. pictures. lots of pictures.

i’d probably put my journal entries in, too. it’s only a small part of my life, but my life nonetheless. and a beanie baby or two, but not any of my favourites or those that are valuable. a tape of some of my favourite songs, the copy of the last hour of the “mark and brian” christmas show i taped off the radio when it was replayed christmas eve morning, my 1999 calendar, some of my leftover hand-stamped cards, maybe a couple rubber stamps and a stamp pad, a pencil, a pen, and notebook i wrote a bunch of stupid poems in. better throw in a book of poems from a real poet, so the people of the future will know the difference between good poetry and crap. too bad i don’t have a pet rock or a slinky, or a yoyo. i have an old monopoly game, but that won’t fit. i’m sure other people will put stuff like that in their millennium time capsules. so, my time capsule will be mostly pictures of me, my life and those around me. the people of the future will know a lot about me, but not much about the world around me. o, well. i’m planning this at the last minute; what the hell do you expect? o, and i’ll throw in a letter, handwritten by me on the day the time capsule is buried; a sort-of greeting to the future, an explanation of all the crap in the box, what stuff was used for, what stuff i didn’t include, but would have if i’d had it; that sort-of thing.

so, that’s what i’d put in my millenium time capsule. what would you put in yours?

cheers!
