This day did not begin well: First, my alarm clock didn’t go off. I had already woke up at about 6:25, and was just laying there dozing, waiting for the radio to come on, and, after awhile I began thinking, “Gee, this is a long five minutes!” So, I turn over and find that it’s 6:31, which is not a complete disaster, I’ll admit, but still, the alarm was supposed to go off at 6:30. I checked and made sure it was set of the correct time, which it was, and checked to make sure the volume hadn’t been turned down all the way on my radio, which it hadn’t, so I don’t know why my clock didn’t go off this morning. It’s a mystery I’ll have to try to work out tonight.
Anyway, I get up and go into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth, and generally start to get ready to meet the day, when I look down on the floor to find it covered with scuttling, little black ants. God dammit. We’ve been enjoying some unusually nice weather here lately: Mild, warm, sunny, just the way the ants like it. I’d noticed the other day some ants marching in their little line out by the garage, but didn’t think they’d start coming inside the house; at least not all the way into my bathroom! I activated a couple of the ant killer things I had sitting around from this past summer’s invasion (can’t recall the name, but they’re the kind you put a few drops of warm water on them to activate whatever it is that attracts the ants to the poison), finished my get-ready-for-work routine, and finally sprayed the whole mass of them little bastards with floral scented Raid before leaving. *Sigh* Luckily, my car started right up (I’m taking her in for a shiny new battery), so maybe the day isn’t a total loss!
Still, although I had planned on skipping the gym tonight, that plan didn’t involve battling ants, and cleaning and scrubbing my entire bathroom from top to bottom. I had planned on looking around the internet for some festive holiday decorations for SPlog and self-portrait, and getting my web logs ready for Friday, which is The Day Without Web Logs. I guess all that stuff will have to wait.
Well, this Saturday I’m escaping. I’m going to Santa Barbara if it kills me! Okay, I take that back; the way my luck’s been running so far, I don’t want to temp any bored impish spirits who’re looking for someone to mess with. I tried on all my fancy party dresses last night to find that none of them fit - not even the skirt I’d bought for last year’s Company Christmas Party - so I need to go shopping for something new. Actually, and this may turn some of you off, but, whatever, I’m thinking of hitting the Goodwill stores, second-hand stores, and thrift stores in search of a nifty formal. I really don’t want to spend a whole ton of money on something that I (hopefully) won’t be wearing next year, but I still want to look fairly decent. A lot of the dressy outfits I see this season wouldn’t fit me in my wildest dreams anyway (and some of them are just butt-ugly), so I’m going to have to go “slumming” a little to see if I can find some long, flowing skirts, and long-sleeve somethingorother to fit my e-fucking-normous hips and ass, and cover up my fat arms. I know I could just go to the new-to-me shops in this area (and might anyway, if I have no luck in SB), but I really need to get out of town, especially since I didn’t get to do it last weekend, so this is it. Besides, there’s a Silver Martini at Rock’s with my name on it, I’m sure!
Cheers! Hez
