self-portrait: a journal of discovery

Wonderful!

So the weekend was wonderful! Saturday, mom and I headed out to the beach, and spent the day out past Cambria walking along the boardwalk there, sitting on the benches spread over the route, and looking out onto the ocean. At one point, we saw a bunch of people looking intently at the water. I tried to see if they’d spotted some whales or other ocean-dwelling creatures, but couldn’t see anything. When we got closer, we could see they were looking at a small group of sea lions who were snoozing on one of the larger rocks further out. Very cool! And, me without my camera! You know, I’d looked at that thing before leaving the house . . .

Anyway, after walking for an hour and a half or so, we stopped by a cafe across the road from the beach, and had lunch on the deck. It was a lovely day - not too sunny, not to hot, but not to cold, either. We had the umbrella put up, and had sun screen on, but still managed to get sunburned. After lunch, we walked along the boardwalk for another half hour before heading home. We’ve decided where we’d like to go for our vacation coming up in December: Cambria. I know it sounds weird to go stay a few days at a place that’s not even thirty miles away, but it seriously seems like a thousand miles because of that ocean! I could be totally happy living there forever. Oh, wait. I already tried that. Never mind. I’m really looking forward to December now! This is gonna be great!

Sunday, we decided to put up mini blinds in the kitchen. The morning sun pounds in that room mercilessly, and we’re blinded every day trying to make our breakfast and coffee. We’d had enough. We headed off to Home Depot, found the size we wanted and reluctantly, but determinedly, headed back to put it up. I wasn’t looking forward to installing this thing ourselves, but in the end we managed it okay. (Besides, we’d already put up four others, so it wasn’t like we’d never done it before.) So, now, the blinds are up, they function property, and we didn’t injure ourselves in any way. The kitchen is a much nicer place to be in the mornings, now.

Next weekend will be another busy one, as we’re getting ready for our company coming at the end of the month. I need to get that den cleared out, and, while I’m at it, I might see if I can get that computer up and running. Ha! Yeah, don’t hold your breath! That’ll definitely take a back seat to cleaning the place out, though.

Cheers,
Hez
