"Mendoza in Hollywood" Kage Baker

"Little Women" Louisa May Alcott (it's still in my purse, but I haven't read it in a long time.)

Whatever's on the radio.

Just finished posting a four part story entitled Out of this World on my Fanfic Site. It's a sci-fi cross over story with the gang from E! and Doctor Who.

My new Starbuck's portable coffee maker/mug:

I'm grateful my car was in the garage when it was raining, and that it appears to be done raining now.

Rainy days and Wednesdays always get me down, especially when the motor for the passenger side window is busted, and the window is open a good one inch! The motor still makes a sound when I push the button, but it's not a good sound. It's like I'm kicking a wounded moose. The window won't up or down. I guess I should be grateful it's not stuck all the way down!

*Sigh* Yet another expense for this stupid vehicle! Every year it's something. Every year it's expensive. God is punishing me for buying such an expensive car. Now I have to get the damn thing fixed before I can trade it in or sell it. I only wanted this one last year. One year, then I'm getting rid of it. I don't have to have it smogged this year, which worked out perfectly. I was just going to enjoy it this one last summer with the top down, and would, by this time next year, be driving a bright red Jeep Wrangler, or a black Ford F150 pick-up with flames on the hood, or some other such vehicle.

For, as much fun as my little car still is to drive, I think my love affair with the Miata is over. Actually, I think I started falling out of love with Fiona last year, when I let my subscription to the Miata Magazine expire. I didn't do it intentionally, and to be honest, I thought I had renewed, but I haven't been getting any magazines, so obviously, I didn't. No matter. I wasn't really reading it much anymore, anyway. In the beginning, it was fun to read the articles, and especially the letters from other Miata owners. The Miata was a special car when it first came out in the nineties. It was a small, fun convertible; an answer to a prayer from those of us who longed for a cute little roadster to whiz around on back country roads in. Mazda heard, and answered. In the magazine, people would write in about how much they loved their cars, what they named their cars, how they gently wiped their cars down with diapers, put them up on blocks for the winter, and wept when their "baby" go its first scratch. They were cute, fun letters written by cute, fun people. Soon, however, the infatuation wore off, and letters became more clinical and technical, and articles moved from Fun Places to Drive Your Miata, to How To Install Aftermarket Air Horns, or something to that effect. Actually, the technical, Do-It-Yourself articles were always there, there were just more of them.

It's hard, I imagine, to continue to produce a quarterly magazine dedicated to just one type of car. Pretty soon, they were funk-itizing older Miatas with spoilers, racing stripes, and fancy fog lamps, comparing the Miata to vintage roadsters, racing the car, etc.

I think the blush is fading from the bloom, and I don't think it's just me. I could be totally wrong, of course, it could just be me, but you know, I'm not getting the "Miata Wave" anymore when I'm driving down the street, so I'm thinking it's more widespread. The Miata Wave, for those who don't know, is when you pop your headlights up and down to make it look like you're "waving" a greeting to a fellow Miata. I guess the newer models can't really do that now that they don't have pop-up headlights, but still, those of us with "First Generation" Miatas, still don't do it anymore.

So, anyway, here I sit, hoping it doesn't rain anymore - it actually only sprinkled a bit this morning, but overnight we got a pretty good rain. Where it came from, no one seems to know. I don't remember seeing it in the forecast, but then I did miss the weather last night, so I was going on day-old information. I dread calling The Madza Hospital about getting the passenger window repaired, and possibly the driver's side one, too, but it'll have to be done. I know it. It's just a matter of how long I decide to put it off. I can probably get away with it until next fall. They're saying we're in for another El Nino this year, which means that window will definitely have to be fixed by October. I suppose I could get an estimate, and start saving for it. It's not like I really need the window on that side. Not right away anyhow.

Washing it will be a pain, though. Crap! And, she really needs a bath, too!

Cheers!
