![]() Free Meat Day So today was Free Meat Day at work. Free Meat Day is when we get, um, free meat. Yeeeah. Okay, lemme explain. Every year some little 4-H kids (or whatever agricultural club they have around here) get little baby animals (pigs, lamb, chickens, cows, etc.) to raise. They feed, water, and care for their baby animal, and watch it grow into a bigger animal. When the animal is big enough, they take it to the Mid-State Fair, and show it. Some of them win ribbons, and such. At the end of the Fair, there's an auction where the kids' animals are sold. A member of The Firm attends this auction and bids on the pigs. (Ironically, it is the firm's Resident Vegetarian. How he got roped into doing that, I'll never know.) Anyway, he usually purchases two pigs, which are quickly whisked away to be humanely slaughtered, and made into ham, sausage, bacon, roasts, steaks, chops, etc. A few weeks after the Fair, we get a picture of the 4-H kid and his pig, and a note thanking us for purchasing his pig, and telling us what a great, rewarding experience raising the pig was. Occasionally they'll mention the name of the pig, but some people find that too disturbing. They don't care to know the name of the animal they're going to cook and eat. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. One year we had a pig named Cinderella. Cinderella was delicious. (I didn't bother looking at the letters this year, so I don't know if anything I'm going to enjoy had a name.) A few weeks after that, the meat arrives, and we all bring in coolers and pack them full with the free meat. This year was a bit different than past years, however, in that there was one pig and one lamb, instead of two pigs. I was pretty happy about that, as I love lamb, but don't get it very often because my mom isn't fond of it. So now we have a freezer full of pork and lamb. We're pretty much set in the meat department for quite a while. In other news, I'm having a hard time adjusting to the increased dosage of Vitamin Z. I've been exhausted, lethargic, headachy, and on top of it all, have suffered from insomnia the past three nights. All of these are side effects of the Z, and I'm really hoping they go away as I get use to the 100mg. The worst part is being so tired all the time. And the headaches - though whether they are actually from the Z, or simply because I'm so tired, I don't really know. All I want to do is sleep, but once I'm in bed, I toss and turn, and sigh in frustration as my eyes remain closed, but my brain works overtime. Tonight, I give up. I'm taking an Excedrin PM (just one) in the hopes that it will help me sleep, and take away my headache. I have accomplished nothing this week. I still have "An Unpleasant Discovery" to finish, I didn't get a picture taken for my 1,000 Words entry for LapisBlue, I haven't updated my journal in forever and a day, and quite frankly, I don't care! I'm so damn tired! And, I'm not even sure I really feel better anymore! *sigh* I know I just need to give it a week or so, and see if everything levels off. If it doesn't, however, I'll call Nurse, and see if I can go back to just 50 mg. Lord knows I'm still twitchy and everything, so the increased doseage isn't really helping with that anyway. If anything, I think I may be more spastic! *another sigh* Whatever. I'm done. I'm going to bed. Wish me luck.
