![]() Heat Index
What is it about summer that makes me unable to update on a regular basis? Last summer I took a hiatus from Self-Portrait, only updating a few times to discuss my Echo and Dental Diva Adventures. This year it's like pulling teeth to get an entry done. I'm still so far behind. I have yet to put up the Atascadero Wine Festival photo entry, or the Went Walking on the Boardwalk in Cambria on a Beautiful Foggy Morning photo entry. I've started three other entries since the beginning of July, but haven't gotten around to finishing them, or even uploading a lead photo. I just don't know what the problem is. Maybe it's the heat. It's been over a hundred degrees here so far this week, and was quite warm over the weekend as well. I don't do well in heat. I tend to get sleepy and lethargic. I don't have the energy to do anything, and since I have to give so much of my energy at work and at the gym, I have little to nothing to give once I get home. I usually end up vegging in front of the boob tube, taking a lukewarm shower, and laying in bed trying not to sweat all night. Uploading pictures? That requires way too much energy. Writing an entry? My brain is melted, so it's a bit hard to be witty and coherent. Then again, I'm rarely witty anyway, so basically the concern is with being coherent. Lame excuses, I know. The truth of the matter is, perhaps my interest in the whole on-line journal thing is waning. I find I'm not reading as many journals as I used to, and most of them have either taken sabbaticals or are lax in updating themselves. I find myself writing a lot more fiction (well, fan fiction), and not really having time to reflect upon my day, which is usually not too terribly interesting to anyone other than myself anyway. So, what am I saying? Oh, nothing really, just thinking out loud. Asking questions, and contemplating answers. In other news, I spent the evening in the delightful company of Pammie Sue and DeeDee. We went out to DeeDee's house which is out in the country, which is very, very nice! ![]()
We made taco salad, and had that with chips and homemade quacamole, and tried some of DeeDee's new wine, a red table wine called Maggie Mae. I can't remember the winery now, but it's a small local one she went to one time, and joined their wine club. She gets a few bottles of wine a month, or something like that. The wine makers name each of their wines after one of their horses, or in the case of the light-but-not-too-fruity-red, their dog. There's a picture of a soaking wet dog on the label, who I assume is Maggie Mae. The wine's nickname is "Wet Dog Red." Fantastic! Oh, and the wine was pretty good, too! Later we met her neighbour's new miniature donkey, Chester. Chester looks sad because he was recently "de-nutted." I am told (with tongue in cheek) that that is the technical term for the removal of a young donkey's balls. Poor thing. ![]()
After meeting and greeting poor nutless Chester, we headed inside to watch Kate and Leopold, which is, as I'm sure most of you know, is a charming, delightful, funny romantic comedy. It had Meg Ryan in it, of course it was cute. We all really enjoyed it, though. It's always so nice to hang out with the girls! ![]()
