The following entry was inspired by a couple other Holidailies participants, and it seemed like a very good idea, so I decided to do it, too. Besides, I needed an entry for today. And, so, following the examples set by Shmuel and Deirdre, I present Who, What, Where, When & Why.

What My on-line journal Self-Portrait.

Where San Luis Obispo County, California by way of Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.

When I began writing my on-line journal on April 20, 1999. At that time it was titled The Writing on the Wall. I changed the name to Self-Portrait in late August 1999, and later purchased my domain self-portrait.net.

Why As I used to say at the top of my The Writing on the Wall entries: "I have always tried to keep a journal, but have failed miserably! Well, all you can do is keep on trying!" Basically I could never keep up a paper journal, nor did I do very well keeping a journal on my word processor. However, since I first started The Writing on the Wall, I've been updating pretty regularly. I still try to keep paper journals, for really super private stuff, but, you guessed it: I can't do it. There's something about the possibility of someone reading, checking back to see what's happening, actually caring about me and my life that keeps me updating online. I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but I really enjoy it, and writing down my thoughts and feelings has been a real learning experience!
