![]() December 22, 2003 My plans for an elaborate escape this holiday weekend might be foiled by bad weather. Originally I had planned on spending Wednesday afternoon in downtown SLO, having a nice, relaxing lunch, doing some window shopping, and browsing some galleries. However, since the location and identity of The Cooks of Christmas Dinner are still up in the air, I had to change those plans to just going straight home when the office closes at noon. We might need to do some quick grocery shopping before the stores close if dinner is up to us. I was pretty bummed about that until I remembered I have Friday off (yet another wonderful gift from The Head Honchos), and could do something then - like, say, a quick trip down to Santa Barbara! However, now the Weather Guessers are saying it will rain - a lot - over the extended Christmas holiday weekend, which totally shoots my alternate plan to go to SB right to hell. Well, Friday is a long way off, so things, plans, and desires could easily change. Still, since I like to plan out my ventures well in advance, I thought I'd go through what I hope to on Friday. I'll get up early, like around 7:30, and try to be on the road by 8, which, if all goes well, should get me into SB by around 10. I'll stop by the Lane Bryant store first, and hopefully find some good after-Christmas deals on basics like tee-shirts or turtleneck sweaters. Next, I'll head downtown to the Paseo Nuevo shopping center, and have my usual lunch at Rock's. (Then again, maybe I'll try someplace different. Then again, maybe not. I'm such a creature of habit!) After lunch will be the usual wandering around the shopping center, checking out the new fashions at the Gap, Express, The Limited, and Banana Republic, and wishing I'd lost enough weight to buy something nice. (Then I'll feel sorry for myself for a bit because I'm still a big fat slob, but I'll pop out of it, and resolve to eat better and exercise more, blah, blah, blah.) But this time, I might head down State Street to find that funky store that had the cool pink kitty shoes I've been wanting for, like, two years or something. Or maybe these shoes. I keep thinking about those shoes, and wish I'd bought them when I first saw them. They're cool and funky, and will probably kill my feet, but I love them and want them all the same. I might try to make it to the wharf this trip, as well. There's a place where I could do some wine tasting and watch the ocean. I did that many years ago, and it was pretty fun. Still, it all depends on the weather this week. So far it's been nice, just foggy in the morning. It's supposed to start raining tomorrow, and continue on through the weekend. As much as we need the rain, I really hope it holds off until after my adventure! For what it's worth,
