Good Friday

Last night was the start of my new writing class - Memoir Writing. Instructor Marc from the short story writing class is teaching this one, too, and there are two other women from that class, so it's like we just had a little break, and now we're back at it. I had several deja vu moments when Instructor Marc explained how class would be run, and during some of the critiques we did on our in-class writing assignment.

We're in a different room this time - it's a larger room with long rows of tables, tiered auditorium style, and chairs attached to the tables that swing out so you can sit down. While it's more comfortable (particularly for a fat girl like myself), it's not very convenient for work shopping, so Marc is going to try to get us a different room for next week. One of the ladies, Eve (not the Eve from work), has a business downtown, and she volunteered it for the class. I think that would be great fun, and would really be a lot more convenient than being on campus. Since Thursday is Farmer's Market, I could pick up some fruits and veggies before class, and maybe even a cup of tea and a snack from Starbucks or Linnea's. It would definitely be more relaxed, which sounds odd since the class is pretty laid back to begin with.

Since today was Good Friday, we only had a half day at work. When I got home, mom and had lunch at Subway, then hit the Target center for some shopping. I picked up some cork tiles to attach down the side of one of the book shelves, to use to organize my writing. During the short story writing class, Instructor Marc said that making story boards for our stories would be helpful, and I thought it was a good idea. I have some 3X5 note cards to write scenes and character descriptions on, then I can pin them to the bulletin board, and move them around until I get it just right. I'm really excited to start organizing my stories. I think it will make writing a lot more fun.

Tomorrow is the usual walking and grocery shopping, and then mom and I are going to put some pictures up in the den, then it will be done! It looks pretty already, but the pictures will just be the finishing touch. I still need to organize my rubber stamps, but that won't get done this weekend. Sunday is Easter, and we'll be going to church with my family, then hopefully to brunch at Sizzler (we never quite know what our plans will be until the last minute!). I have tons of homework to do as well this weekend. We have the Introduction and first essay to read in the text, plus a 500 word Object Study, and I volunteered to bring in a 5 - 10 page memoir for next Thursday. Why? I have no idea!

for what it's worth,
Hez

Escape

Reading: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold; Inventing the Truth: The Art and Craft of Memoir by William Zinsser

Classic Book: Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens; Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf.

Previously: Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Listening to: Whatever's on television; I'm not really paying attention.

Writing: I've got two assignments for my memoir class next week: a 400 word memoir we're all doing for class next week, and a 5 - 10 page memoir to be work shopped on the 22nd, because I was foolish enough to volunteer.

Gratitude: We had a half day at work, so it's almost like having a three-day weekend. Yay!
