Feeling Better

I woke up this morning feeling better than I have in several days! It was the first time all week I haven't experienced night sweats; waking in the frigid morning with sweat-soaked PJs clinging clammily to my skin. It's bad enough that it's been darn cold - it wasn't even 30° when I got up this morning - but to be in cold, wet PJs as well, is awful!

But, today I am better. I feel like a living human being again, instead of a mouth-breathing zombie. I really think I must've had some sort of stomach flu, and probably a slight fever. I blamed most of my ills on Aunt Flo's visit, but really, it had to be more than that. But, ahhhh! *sigh* To feel healthy again! Sweet!

Of course, I'm dead tired today, because although I went to bed at 8:30, I stayed up until 11. I channel surfed until finally landing on Bravo where they were showing the first three episodes of Project Runway, which I'd been wanting to watch, but had totally forgotten about. I missed the first one, but watched the other two. It's very, very cool! I'm definitely going to start watching it every week. This show really takes me back to my college days, when I was getting my Fashion Merchandising degree.

While the degree was changed from the Home Ec Department to the Business Department (and was therefore switched from a BA to a BS), I still had some Home Ec classes to take such as Clothing Construction (i.e., Sewing). We learned about the basic design and construction of clothes, and our final project was to create our own pattern from scratch, and then make it. I made a pair of pants. They're probably the equivalent of a size 4 because I was teeny tiny back then, and I made them out of some awesome dark heather grey fabric I found in the remnant bin at the local We've-Got-Everything drugstore downtown. It was heavy, thick fabric, and I ended up breaking three sewing machine needles on it before the instructor - the totally awesome Dr. Doucé with whom I had a great friendship even after I graduated from University; she past away a few years ago, and I still sometimes forget, and start writing a Christmas card to her - examined the fabric and declared it to be raincoat fabric, and promptly gave me an enormous needle usually reserved for the heaviest denim and corduroy fabrics. Yes, I made a pair of rain-proof pants. You may laugh, but they actually came in very handy when my mom and I went to Great Britain for our summer vacation that following year!

Project Runway got my creative juices flowing, and made me want to start sewing and making clothes again. I probably won't, but it made me want to. Another thing I've been wanting to do is knit. There are four or five ladies here at work who knit, and several people have been walking around sporting beautiful hand-knitted scarves. I've been feeling a little jealous, to be honest. I keep thinking I'd like to make a pretty scarf, too. I probably won't, but seeing all the pretty scarves wandering around the office makes me want to.

Cheers!
