This evening I went to SLO's Farmer's Market. I hadn't gone in a long, long time - I think it's been since March, because the last writing class I took was on Thursday nights. It was a lovely evening - really warm (I didn't need that sweatshirt I took with me after all!), and sunny; the marine layer never did move in. I had dinner at Novo's, on the lower patio by the creek. It was lovely! The birds were chirping above, a light breeze rustled the green leaves on the shady trees overhead, the creek burbled beside me . . . ah! Lovely! Not even the hum of nearby conversations, nor the sound of a jazz band warming up, nor the annoying ring tone of someone's cell phone could break my good mood!
I dined on grilled sea bass on a bed of spring greens with steamed, chilled green beans and yellow beets, and grilled nectarines. I can't remember what the vinaigrette dressing was - it was either avocado or asparagus; something that started with an "a" - but I wasn't thrilled with it at first. Once it got mixed in with the fish and the other veggies, however, it was pretty good. I guess it grew on me! I also enjoyed a glass of Bailyana Chardonnay - okay, two - did some writing, and took some artsy-fartsy photos.
After dinner I went in search of a crocheted poncho. I see they're coming back in style, and all of a sudden I WANT ONE!!! I actually saw a few ladies wearing crocheted ponchos this evening, which just fueled my desire for one! Crazy Jay's had some, but that store is geared towards size -0 pre-teens, so there was no way that their one-size-fits-all would fit me. Plus, they were a heavy knit, which would be fine this winter, but wouldn't do me too much good now. I want something light, funky, to wear over tank tops and such. Something like this. Then again, maybe I should just make one. Seriously, how hard can it be?
Anyway, while I was unsuccessful in my poncho search, I did manage to find two very cool new purses (which I somehow managed not to buy), and some cute clothes at the Gap (two basic T-shirts in white and grey, and a replacement denim jacket; my old one is basically in tatters now), and Express (PINK! They had TONS of fun new PINK stuff, so I bought PINK STUFF! Because I LOVE PINK!!!). Yes it was stupid, but sometimes I just can't help myself: I shop. I haven't done it in a long time, so I don't feel too badly about it. Plus, this weekend I'm going to go through everything I bought, see what fits and what doesn't, and return the non-wearable stuff next week. Also, I'll go through my purses, and see if there's any I can get rid of. If so, then I'll go back and buy one of the funky new ones. If not, I won't.
I must admit I'm much better at getting rid of stuff when I bring new stuff back in than I used to be. Now when I find a cute new pair of shoes I simply must have, I mentally go through my current inventory of shoes, and decide if there's a pair or two I can get rid of. If so, I'll get the new shoes, if not, I won't. Same thing with clothes - if something comes in, something else must go out. I admit I'm not as good with CDs or books, just yet. However, I did get my Book Release Kit from Book Crossing this evening, so I can set free a few books I'm finished with. Also, I've got a stack of CDs to be sent off to Second Spin; I just need to burn a song or two off each, and they can go bye-bye. I'm actually starting to get organized! It's scary, but it's true!
