A Day at Morro Bay

Since it was predicted to be about 100° in Atascadero today, my mom and I decided to head over to Morro Bay to enjoy the cooler weather. The fog was still very thick when we first arrived, but it wasn't too cold - we'd both brought jackets, but neither of us needed them.

I saw this perfect, huge starfish on the rocks below, and decided to try out my telephoto. It actually turned out pretty good.

This large whale statue is out front of a restaurant. Instead of water coming out of the spout, there are tall green plants! I thought the eye was the coolest part, though.

In the park, there is a giant chess set that you can rent to play a game or two.

One of the things main things we wanted to do while in MB was go through the Crafter's Mall. I'm on a quest for several old children's books I loved when I was a kid, plus I'm trying to find a crocheted poncho. I was unsuccessful in both searches, but I did find this:

Ironically, just this past week, Barbie and I were reminiscing about these plastic high heeled shoes we had as children. I remembered having a pink pair, but Barbie's had been black and gold - just like these! It was too funny to see these just after having that conversation! I can't wait to show her this picture next week!

After the Crafter's Mall, mom and I stopped for lunch at The Flying Dutchman, and managed to get a nice table by the water, with a great view of Morro Rock! By this time the sun was burning off the fog, and I was able to get a good shot before the marine layer moved back in.

We were both bad, and had some delicious, greasy fish-n-chips!

Morro Bay has some really unique plants and trees! I don't know what these are called, but they're really cool!

Another of our favourite places is The Garden Gallery. It has tons of great home and garden decorations and accessories, plants, fountains, statuary, and pots and containers. It's very peaceful, and although we can't afford to buy anything there, mom and I both enjoy going through it.

I thought this masthead of a lady was really cool!

I managed to sneak a quick self-portrait in a large mirror.

Pretty goldfish in a fountain.

I loved all the statuary, fountains, and plants they have!

Before leaving Morro Bay, mom and I stopped by a candy store for a bag of fresh-made saltwater taffy! Yum!
