I is for Illness

I apologize in advance for this rambling, poorly written entry. As you will soon see, I'm still sick, so I'm using that as a poor excuse for bad writing. Sorry.

Today I is for Illness because I am ill! Still. Ugh! Lord, I hate being ill! I doubt there are many people out there who enjoy being sick - though I'm sure there are a few - so I'm not alone. I am not often ill - I don't have children, so I'm not picking up any of the creeping crud they often bring home from school or daycare, and I eat healthy (for the most part) and take vitamins (starting, um, now). When I feel something coming on, or several of my co-workers are ill, I'll take Zinc lozenges to boost my immune system. Usually it works; everyone around me will be sick, but I won't catch it.

I've been slacking off on my vitamins and Zinc lately, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I wound up with a sore throat and head cold while attending the CAPA convention last weekend. All the air conditioning combined with the stress of driving there, being tired and worn down, sitting in closed quarters with hundreds of strangers to make me ill. I didn't want to admit it at first, which is why I didn't start taking any medication until Sunday. I never get sick! I can't possibly be sick! Only other people get sick! This is probably why it's still with me, sucking the life out of me as each hour goes by. Gah!

Today, at least my throat is better. Now it's just my stuffy head and sinuses, runny nose and the beginnings of a cough. Oh, joy!

I hate getting colds in the summer. It truly sucks. Funny thing is, I'm not sure where I got this illness from. None of my family is sick, and only one other coworker who attended the convention with me is ill, and she only became sick yesterday. (Gee. I hope I didn't give it to her!) I don't recall being around anyone who was ill the whole weekend. It's a mystery.

Then again, as Barbie reminded me earlier, this always seems to happen: I tend to get sick after being on a trip. I end up with a head cold or flu after travelling. I totally should've picked up a bottle of Airborne when I saw the stuff at Rite Aid a couple weeks earlier. I'll definitely get some before going to JournalCon! Wish me health!
