In all my thirty-eight years of life, I have never had an X-ray. Well, dental X-rays, yes, but never one to show a broken bone in an arm or leg. Basically, I've never broken a bone in my entire life (knock wood!), unless you could the "unofficial" break in my leg from my
graceful *cough* fall last year. I say unofficial because I never had it X-rayed, so I don't know if I broke it or not. Now, nearly six months later, I'm beginning to wonder if I did, in some way, break, crack or crush my poor little tibia. While the bruise is gone and the scar has faded (thanks in part to some
scar care patches I've been using), there is still tenderness, and a very discernable
dip in the leg; a soft, almost squishy bit between two pieces of very solid bone. It's tender, and still hurts when I touch it. After all this time, I really don't think it should. Sometimes I lay awake at night wondering what's going on inside my leg. Is it still just a really, really bad bruise? Is the bone itself bruised, or is it smashed in some horrible way? Do I have an infection? Gangrene? Actually, I doubt it's anything that serious, because if I was getting an infection or worse, I'd notice it. Wouldn't I?
Anyway, I'm beginning to wonder about it. I'm going to mention it to my NP when I go in for my annual exam in another month or so, and see what she thinks. She might recommend an X-ray. Then I will have my first one. At this point, it's been so long that if the bone is broken in any way, shape or form, it's already healed up, and it would have to be rebroken and reset. Eeeg! Then again, maybe it'll be just fine; slow in healing, but not too seriously damaged. I'll hope and pray for that!
Well, this is my last Alphybytes entry. I managed to write an entry for each letter of the alphabet without too much fudging. It was really fun! I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with a word to write about. Many times, the subject just fell into my lap like Father's Day and Graduation, as well as this weekend's Wine Festival and visit to the Zoo. I'm looking forward to playing again next year!
