Dental Diva Update and the
Joy of Cooking
I had my 3-month dental cleaning and check up this afternoon, and I'm pleased to say everything looked good. Well, almost everything. Apparently I've been sloppy with my cleaning behind the lower teeth on both sides - the hygienist got blood. Bummer. But, I guess I really haven't been too diligent back there, so I suppose I'd better start paying closer attention to them.
In other news, I made the most delicious lamb stew ever last night! I had
been planning on making lamb stew since receiving the stew meat in our Free Meat
last summer, but the lingering malady, the earthquake, and my trying to break my
leg pretty much shot our winter all to hell. We never made oatmeal for breakfast, I
never made chili in the crock pot, nor did I get around to baking game hens or
chickens or pot roast in the oven. We didn't use the oven hardly enough while it was
cold, and now that it's warming up, and we won't be able to use it much at all. And
making homemade soup, having the large stock pot up and boiling on the stove for
two hours or so, it's just not going to happen much longer.
Last night, however,
I pulled the lamb stew meat out of the freezer, cooked it up, and added it to the
barley and beef broth I'd had simmering on the stove for about an hour, then
added a packed of frozen vegetables to the mix, and let it boil for another half an
hour. I dished it up with a couple slices of sourdough bread, and that was dinner. It
was fantastic!
for what it's worth,

Reading: You've Got to Read This ed. by Ron Hansen. This week
we're only reading
one story from the book: "Master and Man" by Leo Tolstoy. We've got three stories
to work shop for
next week.
Classic Book: Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens.
Previously: Animal Farm by George Orwell.
Listening to: All my old vinyl, now that I got my turntable fixed, and got
the 45 adapter! What a trip down memory lane it's been!
Writing: I wrote a really quick new short story during my lunch hour on
Friday, and I'm working on cleaning it up so I can turn it in on Wednesday.
Gratitude: Beautiful, sunny, warm days, and pretty, pretty flowers.
