Friday night was The Firm's first BBQ Patio Party of the 2004 season. Most everyone from the office stayed, and enjoyed good food, good wine and great conversation with excellent company. We also celebrated Kitty's Five Year Anniversary at The Firm, which prompted a discussion over who's been here how long, and why don't summer internships and temping count towards your five years? I know they were all looking at me, because I've actually been working here over six years, now, but most of that was as a temp, so it doesn't count. Not that it matters. Not really. Sure I'd like to have a nice pendant with The Firm's logo on it, but I can wait. I should get one in about three years or so.
Anyway.
The Grill Meister cooked up chicken wings, shrimp skewers and scallops, as well as a garlic bread to die for - real butter, big chunks of garlic and parmesan cheese, all cooked to perfection! Mmmm! I didn't have any, though. Still trying to be good on a low-carb diet, although it really isn't working out too well. After all, I had about three or four glasses of Chardonnay, which, let's face it, is not very diet-friendly. But, it was good! And, it was free. These things are more important than dieting.
Saturday mom and I did the usual: walk to Carlene's for coffee and a muffin, then go get groceries, then do nothing the rest of the day. I tried to write up another memoir to hand out in class this Thursday, but I just couldn't think of anything to write about. After last week's class, where all three of the memoirs we work shopped were really really good, I find my little life sorely lacking. I don't really want to write about depressing stuff, but it seems like that's all I can see right now. I might end up just rewriting the last piece I turned in, "Shangri-La", and turning that in for additional work shopping.
Yesterday was Sunday, and again, I did next to nothing. My aunt stopped by in the morning and picked up two chairs mom and I had been planning on selling at the Yard Sale (of Doom), but instead decided to give to my cousin for her new apartment. She's not getting the place until August, but my aunt wanted to pick the stuff up right away. Along with the two chairs, we gave her two mismatched lamps we weren't using anymore, and I threw in a hair braider thing that I never even opened. I tried to give her the shorter of our two artificial ficus trees, my old, but still usable, twin bed, and my monstrously large stereo, but she only wanted the lamps and the chairs. No matter. We were just happy to see the chairs go!
So, now we're thinking we won't have to have a yard sale after all. It was the two chairs that started the whole Yard Sale (of Doom) idea to begin with, because they were too big for us to haul off anywhere, and they really were too good to just give to a Thrift Shop. The rest of the items we have to get rid of are small enough to be posted on E-bay and mailed off to some lucky bidder or just taken to Goodwill. The jewelry we'll just keep, since it doesn't take up too much space, and we can maybe use it for something. So. No yard sale (of doom) for us.
That is an enormous relief! Now we've got a free 4-day weekend (Memorial Day weekend, plus the Friday I took off) to to whatever we want! We're definitely going to the beach at least one of those days, and there is one day where we'll have to do some yard work and home improvement projects, but that's it. I'm definitely thinking of going to Cambria and walking along the boardwalk, having lunch at the seaside cafe, and just sitting and watching the waves. Then again, Avila Beach is really nice now that it's all fixed up, and Pismo Beach is always a nice place to visit, and we haven't been to Morro Bay in ages.
So many places to visit, so little time!
