Happy Mother's Day

This Mother's Day was a wonderful success! The weather was lovely - sunny, but not too hot; breezy, but not as bad as predicted. Church was nice, despite the use of a new program that threw pretty much everyone off. The music was different, but I actually liked it, even if I had trouble following along. I'm getting used to the Pastor being a woman, and am beginning to really like her and her sermon-style. She's very enthusiastic and positive and joyous, which is always nice in a pastor! She had the children give pink carnations out to all the ladies today. At first I didn't want to take one, because I thought it was for the moms, but the Pastor's husband was sitting in front of us, and told me the flowers were for "all the women", not just moms. It's really a pretty shade of pink. I'll have to remember to take a picture before it fades.

After church we ("We" being my mom and me, and my aunt, uncle and one cousin, plus one of their Pugs, Bow Wow.) went up to my grandparent's house for a picnic lunch. Grandma had made all the stuff yesterday - even though mom and I volunteered to fix stuff - and it was nice enough that we were able to eat outside. We had baked "fried" chicken, homemade potato salad, a veggie tray (which included some home grown radishes!), pork 'n' beans, and carrot cake for dessert. Lord! It was delicious! I'm sure I'll be up a couple pounds when I step on the scale tomorrow morning, but I don't care.

After lunch, we all sat outside, enjoying the beautiful weather, and chatting. My grandparent's back yard is really nice! They've got tons of vegetables growing in the garden, thick, green grass, full, leafy trees, and beautiful flowers. They also have a nice view of the hills - although the hills all dry and brown now, it's still nice - and quite a bit of privacy from their neighbours from the trees and bushes. They have lots of humming birds and other small birds stopping by for a snack at one of the many feeders, or a splash in the bird bath. The small concrete porch is covered by a lattice cover that has screens in between the slats to keep the leaves and other debris off the patio. It diffuses the light, so there's some shade, but the sun still comes in, and I got a bit sunburned on the back on my neck when I was sitting out there. It's not too bad, though, and as I said before, it was worth it.

Mom and I ended up leaving around 2 p.m. We were getting tired, and wanted to just rest and relax. When we got home, I put up the present I got for my mom - a garden spinner, which she has been wanting for some time. It's a iridescent plastic one, kinda icicle-looking, with a small marble at the bottom to keep it from just blowing away. We hung it from a hook on the fence, so mom can sit on our patio and look at it. I was so glad I'd found one! I'd been looking all over, but, though they were really popular last year, I hadn't been having much luck!

The rest of the day we just laid around, relaxing, watching TV and napping. Perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, if you ask me!

for what it's worth,
