- Every year I make New Year’s Resolutions, and every year I fail to accomplish any of them. It’s an exercise in futility, really, so why do I even bother to do it? Tradition? Wishful thinking? Boredom? I don’t know, but it’s January 1st again, and I guess it’s time to make Resolutions. Or goals; a lot of people are just setting “goals” for themselves, rather that doing resolutions. What the difference is I’m not sure. Maybe it makes the task sound easier to accomplish.I looked back at the past few years and discovered I’ve been making the same few resolutions/goals; the same ones I’ve been failing to meet/achieve. So, what do I resolve to do this year? Lose weight? Tried it. Again and again and again … Finish NaNoWriMo? Tried that one, too. I’ve actually accomplished that one a couple times, but didn’t quite reach th 50,000 words this, er, I mean last year. Read the Bible? Been there, tried that, too. Gah!
So what new resolutions/goals could I possibly come up with for 2006? What could I possibly try to accomplish to better myself that won’t make me sound like a broken record? Or a failure? Well, here’s a few:
1. Floss daily
Okay, that’s doable; I’m basically already flossing on a regular basis, just not so much on the weekends. I could pick up those two extra days, however, and I’ll meet that goal!
2. Get cholesterol level back to 183
Yeah, that’s a good one. It’s health-related, but not the same as saying “I’m going to exercise every day” or “This year I’ll lose weight”. As a reference point, my cholesterol is currently 211. I know: ouch!
3. Finish writing Fenton Family Reunion
That should help me reach my “write more” goal from last year and the year before etc.
4. Sell my crap on Ebay
I had this one last year, but I’ll have to keep it on the list for this year, too because I still have a lot of crap to get rid of. Mostly stamps. Gah!
5. Do something fun once a month
Go to the beach, take the train to Santa Barbara or just go have lunch at one of the nice little bistros in Paso Robles. Something. Anything!
