This morning I drove my mom and grandparents to the Atascadero Lake Pavilion for their flu shots. There was a Health Fair or something going on there; we went last year, and like last year, while the Elders were getting inoculated against the heinous influenza, I grabbed my camera and walked around the lake taking pictures of water, trees and wildlife (mostly in the form of water foul). Enjoy!

Can you spot the kitty in the tree?

No? Well, here’s a closer look:

The Elders were finished by the time I made it around once, and mom and I took my grandparents home. Afterwards, my mom mentioned they were also doing cholesterol and glucose tests at the Fair, and did I want to go have my blood tested. Well, no, I really didn’t, but since I had the nagging feeling that if I didn’t go get the tests done, I’d never hear the end of it, we headed back to the Lake.
There wasn’t a line when we got there, so I got right in. The phlebotomist stuck me and told me to come backin five minutes for the results. While I was waiting, I decided to check out the rest of the Fair, which I’d mistakenly thought was for old farts only. There were some booths geared toward the elderly (in-home care, recliners that tilt up so you can get out of them easily, phones for the hard-of-hearing, etc.), but there were booths with jewelry, herbal supplements and weight-loss franchizes as well. In fact, I had my body fat done at the Slender Lady booth (just to depress and embarrass the hell out of myself I’ll share that I topped out at 220lbs and 49.5 percent body fat), and had a lengthy discussion with a girl from Kennedy Club Fitness. I signed up for their drawing (something about membership fees, I think; I don’t remember), and won a day pass by spinning their wheel-of-fortune-type thing. I’m planning on going over there next Saturday to check the place out and hopefully talk to someone about getting a membership and hiring a personal trainer.
After mom and I toured all the booths, I went back for the results of my bloodwork. Turns out my cholesterol is 161 (which is down from the last time I did it), and my glucose is 109 (which is up a bit from the last time). Still, the numbers were really good for someone my size, and all the phlebotomists were impressed.
Even so, I do need to get some of this weight off. Just because my numbers are good now, doesn’t mean they can’t go bad later on. So, yeah. I’m going to Kennedy, and I’ll probably sign up. I know I’ve had trouble getting motivated to go to the gym before (I think I’ve had a membership at every gym in the county, including one to Kennedy years and years ago!), but I’m seriously considering getting a personal trainer this time, and working out a schedule with him or her for daily workout appointments. If someone is expecting me to be somewhere at a certain time, I can’t really blow it off. At least that’s the theory.
Ummm. Other than that, not much is going on right now. I’m going to try to sell some more stuff on eBay, get a mani/pedi, come up with some kind of idea for NaNoWriMo which starts on Wednesday, and … oh! I have a dentist appointment on Monday – can’t forget that! – and I must try to figure out some costume or other for Halloween on Tuesday.
Gah!
